Obituaries
Alene Shotwell Jordan was a child of the late Theon Shotwell Sr. and Mary Branch Shotwell. She was born on February 7, 1934 in Cordova, TN with her identical twin Pauline Shotwell Smith who preceded her in death. Alene accepted Christ into her life at an early age at Mt. Pisgah Baptist Church, Cordova, TN. She served as an Usher and a Worshipper under the leadership of Reverend W. A. Anderson, Reverend Bell and Reverend Sampson Townsend Sr., all who preceded her in death.
Alene united with New Era Baptist Church in Memphis, TN in 1973 under the leadership of Reverend Sampson Townsend, Sr. and currently under Reverend Sampson Townsend Jr. Alene was a faithful member of New Era and served as Benevolent Chairperson, Dedicated Sunday School Student (Class #3). She was an asset to the Food Ministry, Pastor’s Aid Ministry and she supplied baptismal attire for the Baptismal Ministry.
In 1971, Alene united in marriage to the late Sam E. Jordan where they parented 12 children during their union; Elaine , Marcus , Kenneth, Vanessa, Evangeline, Jacqueline, Samuel, Irma, Willie B, Ernestine, Horace and Henry who preceded her in death.
She leaves to celebrate her life and cherish her memories; Children- Antoinette Elaine (Jerry) Knowlton, Marcus (Tamika) Jordan, Vanessa (Richard) Grant, Jacqueline Jordan, Evangeline Webb, Samuel Jordan, Erma Porter; and Willie B. Jordan, Ernestine Banks, Horace Porter and Henry Jordan who preceded her in death. Sisters- Mattie (Ralph) Davis of Nashville, Annette (Gerard) Reynolds of Atlanta, GA, Carol Branch Reese, Shirley (Clayton) Boone; and Rosanna Allen, Pauline Smith, Everlena Bowen, who preceded her in death; 1 living Brother- M. J. (Ann) Branch; and Willie C (Lena) Shotwell, Arthur (Jimmy) Shotwell, Sandy (Dorothy) Shotwell, Joe Ellis Shotwell, Theon (Rosa) Shotwell Jr, James Shotwell and Lonnie Branch who preceded her in death; a loving niece Sarah Jean Jones; a brother-in-law, Frank Bowen. Sister-in-laws: Louise Shotwell and Rita Shotwell; 28 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren 15 great-great grandchildren. Five god-daughters; Jearldine Lena Williams-Brown; Rita Grandberry, Vivian Gray, Arthur Gunn, and Lucia Ross; two god-sons, Michael Rice and William Singleton. Three god-sisters: Eunice Carruthers, Ynell McFarland, Mary McGrew; 1 grand-dog, Sassie Jordan, and a host of nieces, nephews, and friends
