Alfred Lillard Motlow III born September 21, 1998 in Memphis, TN journeyed through his life with compassion, laughter, and determination. A joy to everyone he met, Alfred (affectionately known as “Tre”), said goodbye to everyone he touched on January 5, 2018 to join his father Alfred Motlow Jr., his Grandmother Billie Motlow, and Grandfather Wilton Steinberg.
Throughout Tre’s educational journey with Shelby County Schools from grades k-12, he always strived for excellence. Because of his diligence to excel academically, he received the “Student of the Year Award” at Germantown High School. In 2016, Tre graduated from Germantown High School with honors leaving hand prints on the walls as an academic achiever and sportsman.
Tre’s parents instilled in him the value of higher education, therefore he continued his educational journey after graduating from High School. Tre began to design his own path…. He was determined to attend an HBCU like his dad. In 2016 Tre enrolled in Florida A&M (FAMU). As a Civil Engineering major, he received a four year academic scholarship. Tre also was a member of the National Collegiate Scholarship Society. Determined to follow in his father’s footsteps Tre joined the Omega Psi Phi fraternity in the fall of 2017. His line brothers Problematiq 25 in a short period of time grew to love Tre and his compassion he had for his brothers and love for FAMU.
One of Tre’s most important highlights during his journey was attending Holy Temple Ministries where he received Christ at an early age. His spiritual journey of growth and maturation led him to become an active and faithful member of the Jr. Deacon Board and Drama Ministry. His obedience as a servant of God, inspired him to continue to be a servant and take active roles and participation in several civic and charitable organizations including FAMU Big Brothers Big Sisters Organization.
Tre’s contagious smile and genuine laughter pierced the hearts of so many people. He loved telling funny jokes and making people laugh. He lived his life full of rays and sunshine even to living his wildest dream of traveling abroad to Spain in the summer of 2017 to study his craft in engineering.
Loving memories of Tre will be cherished by his two father figures who guided him throughout his life’s journey, his uncle Milton Steinberg and Mentor and fraternity brother Dr. Michael DeBaun. His loving mother Jean Ann Steinberg Motlow, doting sister Brittany Motlow and host family, friends and educators.
The family will receive friends Friday, January 12, 2018 from 5-7 p.m. at Serenity Place, 1648 Sycamore View Rd.
