Obituary for Ben Lewis, Jr.
Ben Lewis Jr. was born on February 17, 1940 to the late Pearl Wilkins Smith and Ben Lewis Sr. in Clarksdale, MS. He confessed to Christ at an early age at a church in Clarksdale, MS. He came to Memphis in the late fifties where he met Ernestine Kyle and they made a life together for 44 years. He worked for J.W. Owens for 25 years. Later he went to work for D.D. Freeland for 27 years. He retired in 2003.
Ben was called home to be with the Lord on January 6, 2018 at the age of 77. He was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and a great provider for his family.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ernestine Kyle Lewis; two daughters, Twanda Kyle Wesson and LaNese Lewis; three sisters, Maraget Ringo, Willie Kay Wilkins and Mary Barnes; and two brothers, Jimmy Barnes and Aaron Smith.
He leaves to cherish his memory five sons, Maurice Lewis and Frank Lewis of Nashville, TN, David (Doris) Kyle, Bennie (Sharon) Kyle and Bruce Kyle all of Memphis; four sisters, Addie Mahome, Dorothy (Ronald) England), Velma Mitchell and Delois (Fred) Keys all of Chicago, IL; three brothers, Eddie Wilkins of Columbus, Ohio, Phillip smith of Iowa and Willie (Vicky) Smith of Illinois; a very special aunt, Ruth Wilkins-Smith; a host of grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and friends.
