Obituaries
Bernice Carolyn was the oldest girl born to the late Robert and Adlisher Couch.
She attended the BTW High school and Memphis Theological Seminary and was employed with several companies throughout her adult life including Firestone Tire and Rubber Company, Union Planters Bank, Bell Howell, and DeKalb County Court House.
Bernice accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior at an early age at Mt. Vernon Baptist Church under the leadership of Dr. James Netters. Bernice later joined Historic First Baptist Beale under the leadership of Rev. James Jordan where she served in the choir, Matron society, Sunday school and missions work, all in Memphis, TN. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Denise Dorth, and Joan Couch.
Bernice was united in Holy Matrimony to Freddie Thompson. She was the mother of one daughter, Miarobbea Couch.
Bernice leaves to cherish her memories: her loving husband, Freddie Thompson; daughter, Mia Couch; stepchildren, Cortina Thompson, Dr. Katrina Thompson Bowdry (Greg), and Freddie Thompson, Jr.; seven sisters, Samella Wallace, Vera Hargrow, Clarice Dockins, Nadalyn Hunter, Toni (Tommie Lee) Clark, Sharon (James) Cunningham, Michelle(Fredel); three brothers, James Robert (Ruby) Dortch, Steven Dortch, Sr. (Gloria), Rickey Couch; one grandchild, Joslin McNeal; one great-grandchild, Kater Lee Jones, III; one aunt and uncle, James Robinson (Erma Jean); sisters-in law, Carolyn (Archie) Kelly, Vibian Rice, and Phyllis Caston; brothers-in-laws, Buford Ross Thompson, Al Thompson, and Randy Thompson; and a multitude of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
