Obituary for Betty J. Rucker
Betty J. Rucker, 74, died January 31, 2017.
Betty Jean McIntyre Rucker was born to the late Mr. Earnest and Robbie Mae McIntyre on March 11, 1942 in Senatobia, Mississippi, the first born of eleven children. Five months after her birth, Betty’s family moved to Tunica, Mississippi. She accepted Christ at an early age, and served on the Usher Board for years at St. Paul Missionary Baptist Church in Tunica. She was educated in the Tunica School System. Betty was united in Holy Matrimony to Joe Louis Rucker in January 1957. To this union, five children were born. She worked as an Early Childhood Teacher at Rosa Fort School in Tunica. After relocating to Memphis, Tennessee, she became a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church under the leadership of Reverend Ben L. Bess, Sr. In her later years, she joined Eternal Peace Baptist Church. After 23 years of employment, she retired from McDowell Industries. Even in retirement, she began working at Riverview-Kansas Early Childhood Education. Betty’s proudest accomplishment was her family, along with the example she set for hard work and her faith in God. Down through the years, as her children stumbled and fell, Mother was there, always there, wishing them well. She expressed to them that they were saved because of God’s Amazing Grace and the home training that she provided, kept them in place. Mother has done more than her best; now it is time to rest.
Two brothers, Sgt. Harry James McIntyre and Willie Lee Carroll, Jr. preceded her in death. Betty leaves to cherish her precious memories: her husband, Joe Louis Rucker, Sr.; three daughters, Rosemary Williams, Brenda Walker, and Linda Jones; two sons, Joe Louis Rucker, Jr. (Debra), and Melvin Rucker (Tammy), all of Memphis, Tennessee; four sisters, Gladys Frieson, Earnestine Brown (Curtis), Carolyn Carroll, and Doris Carroll, all of Memphis, Tennessee; two aunts, Dorothy Gleaton and Vernice Killibrew; one uncle, James Killibrew of Batesville, Mississippi; two daughters-in-law, Debra and Tammy Rucker; one brother-in-law, Curtis Brown; one sister-in-law, Barbara McIntyre of Jacksonville, Florida; 11 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends, plus Michelle Byrd, a God-daughter.
