Obituary for Billie R. Smith
Lady Billie Joy Rutherford Smith was born January 13, 1938. She confessed her hope in Christ at the age of 12. Billie married the love of her life, Rev. Dr. Melvin Charles Smith at 17. They had two beautiful girls, Robin and Alison. Lady Billie graduated from Hamilton High School. In 1994 she retired from the Memphis Defense Depot. She was awarded by countless organizations for her contributions to Mt. Moriah East Baptist Church as their First Lady. Lady Smith left an imprint on every life she touched and a praiseworthy legacy to her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents, grandmother and brother. She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Rev. Dr. Melvin Charles Smith, two daughters Robin (Tom, deceased) and Alison (Chauncey), two granddaughters Erin (Mario) and Lauren and a host of beloved extended family.
Services for Lady Billie Joy Rutherford Smith are as follows: Visitation and Reception, Thursday, November 30, 4PM-7PM, Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View Rd., Memphis, TN 38134; Homegoing Celebration, Saturday, Dec. 2, at 12 noon, Mt. Moriah East Baptist Church, 1248 Haynes St., Memphis, TN 38114. Entombment in Serenity Columbarium and Memorial Garden.
