Mr. Lewis was born in Sardis, Ms. On June 21, 1924. He just reached his 91st birthday which just so happened to fall on Father’s Day this year. He was a U.S Army veteran serving his country in Germany and France, landing on the shores of Normandy during WWII. He experience a tremendous span of life and fortunate to have been part of the greatest generation this country has yet to offer. He was a loving husband, father, son, brother and caring friend. To have known him was simply to have heard his jubilant laugh, seen his sweet smile or to have encountered his kind, caring heart, even once. “Poodle”, as he was affectionately known for most of his life, will greatly be missed here in this world but rejoice in knowing our loss is heaven’s gain.
A memorial celebration welcoming friends and loved ones will be held at Hinds Chapel United Methodist Church, 5105 Church Road, Lake Cormorant, Ms., on Wednesday, July1, 2015. Visitation begins at 4:00 p.m. Memorial service at 5:00 p.m. to follow with food and fellowship. The chapel will be open after 12p.m. for any deliveries.
Mr. Lewis is preceded in death by his parents, Willie Franklin Lewis and Leona Mae Lewis Oxford, Ms. Three siblings, William Eugene Lewis, Francis Lewis Howington, Doris Lewis Myrick. He is survived by his wife, Margaret Mitchel Lewis of Nesbit, Ms., Two children, Gregory Mitchell Lewis (Ricky Hale) of Nesbit, Ms., Jana Lewis Flack (John) of Cordova, Tn., and two grandchildren, Adam Bailey Flack and Morgan Elizabeth Flack and brother, Ronald Lewis (Brenda) Oxford, Ms.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be offered in honor of Mr. Lewis to his church, Hinds Chapel UMC or the American Heart Association.
