On Saturday, December 18, 2021, Elgin peacefully fell asleep in death surrounded by his wife and children.
Elgin married the love of his life, Gloria. They enjoyed being married for 49 years and set a wonderful example as a couple. They enjoyed spending time with their children and grandchildren, traveling the world, gardening, and fishing together. Elgin adored his wife so much that some of his famous words were “whatever my baby wants”. As he was battling metastatic lung cancer, he was asked if he had one wish, what would it be. He simply said that Gloria would be his wish.
Elgin touched many lives and was affectionately called Dad, Daddy, Pops, and Paw Paw. He was soft spoken yet stern, gentle yet brave, conservative but amazingly generous. These were his driving qualities and motivations that made him special to those he encountered. To know him was indeed to love him.
He was an exceptional body mechanic. He was meticulous by nature and a perfectionist at his craft. He was one of Memphis’ premier body mechanics.
