James Edward Royal, 77, died October 22, 2018.
JJames “Sammy” Royal was born on August 7, 1941 to the late Gordon and Johnnie C. Shockley in McMinnville, TN. He confessed his life to Christ at an early age. Prior to becoming a member at Mt. Moriah East Baptist Church, James was an active member for years at Beautiful Zion Missionary Baptist Church in West Memphis, Arkansas.
James became a member of the NAACP in 1974 and remained a member until is passing. He was a political campaign manager for several candidates in West Memphis, Arkansas; as well as Memphis, TN.
James was a God fearing man that loved the Lord and his children. He was a man of fashion and had a passion for modeling. He was well known for his unique physique and his distinctive mannequin turn. He was a man of charm, great personality and smile. He also was a man of great humor and was a fun overall person to know. He will be truly missed and loved by those that knew him.
James leaves to cherish his memories: LaNita (Lawrence) Royal Matlock, Angela Royal Dear, Johnny L. Hueing all of Memphis, TN, Quadarius G. Royal of Jacksonville, FL, Marilyn (Bruce) Martin, Keith Hubbard all of West Memphis, AR, Idris Royal of Germany, Diane Black of Detroit, MI, Aisha Tucker of Austin, TX; and a host of children, grandchildren, great grandchildren. He also leaves to cherish his memories: Carol (Richard) White, Elaine (Richard) Woods, Marilyn (Leotis) Hooks, Aubrey (Carol) Shockley, Jeffery (Tammy) Shockley, Gordon (Melnett) Shockley, and host of family and friends.
