Obituary for Joseph L. "Joe" Pipkin Jr.

Joseph L. Pipkin, Jr., 69, died October 8, 2018.

Minister Joseph “Joe” Pipkin was a devoted and protective husband, father, grandfather, brother, brother-in- law, uncle, nephew, friend, mentor, prayer warrior and counselor to many. Joe left an impressive mark on the lives that crossed his path.

Joe was the eldest of four siblings born to the union of the late Joe Pipkin Sr. and Mary Lee Smith Pipkin. A son Joseph Pipkin III, and one sister Estelle Pipkin preceded him in death.

Joe graduated from Manassas High School in 1966. He obtained an Associate’s degree from Southwest Community College and a Bachelor’s in biblical studies from Crichton College.

Joe began his journey with the Lord under the pastorship of the late Elder Johnny Dunn at Christ Temple Church of God in Christ, where he accepted Christ and later accepted his call into the ministry. Joe travel with Evangelist Jones to various revivals utilizing his gift playing the guitar.

Joe worshiped at Resurrection Church of God under the leadership of Pastor Herbert Banks.

Joe served faithfully on the Prayer Connection Prayer line every Tuesday and Saturday morning, where he ministered and encouraged those on the prayer line.

Joe finally served faithfully at Keys To The Kingdom International Ministry under the leadership of Bishop Tommy L. Williams, until God called him home on October 8, 2018.

Joe was employed by the Shelby County Sheriff’s department from June 1977 until he retired in June 2005.

Joe later joined the Safe Harbor House of Memphis, TN in 2013, where he worked as a Chaplain and provided counseling to men recovering from various addictions. Joe tried to make a difference by counseling and mentoring men who enrolled in this program.

Joe heard the Savior’s voice, on Monday October 8, 2018, and took his flight to his Heavenly and Eternal home. He leaves to carry on his legacy: A devoted wife,Alma Pipkin, two daughters Quetta Pipkin of Chattanooga TN, Alicia Stone (Frank) of Indianapolis Indiana, one son Tedvis Pipkin of Memphis, TN, three granddaughters, Taylor Pipkin of Memphis, TN, Melody Jordan and Makayla Craddock both of Chattanooga, TN two brothers and one sister; Thomas Pipkin of Memphis,TN,David Pipkin of Palmer, Alaska, one sister Attlee Pruitt of Memphis, TN, one Uncle Hosie Pipkin (Lenora) of Memphis, TN,three sister-in-laws Christine McGrone, Elder Juanita Scott and Velma Brady all of Chicago, Ill. Special Friends Deon Williams, Tony Wakefield, Frank Phillips and many others not named, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, church family, prayer partners, co-workers and many friends.

Visitation Friday from 5-7 p.m. at Serenity Funeral Home, 1638 Sycamore View. Service at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 20th, at Lake Grove Baptist Church, 265 Leath Street. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Memphis Food Bank.
