Maxine Dates died September 4, 2016.
Maxine Olivia Dates, age 70, of Memphis, Tennessee, departed this life on Saturday, September 3, 2016. She graduated from Douglass High School in 1964 and received her bachelor’s degree from Memphis State and also studied at Draughon’s Business College. Maxine was an active member of Unity Christian Church.
Maxine worked as a sales consultant, daycare teacher, and an administrative assistant before she retired. Maxine’s talents were many: she loved going to church, shopping, collecting jewelry, and was a beloved mother and grandmother. She enjoyed family vacations with her daughter and granddaughter, Jenisha Dates. Maxine collected many native artifacts and jewelry on her trips, as well as local crafts and antiques. Her first and only marriage was in 1964.
Preceded in death by her parents, Vivian Fleming Bernard and Richard Bernard and her brother, Larry Bernard, Sr. She is survived by her four adult children, Clifton (Abby) Dates III, Eric (Marilyn) Dates, Darryl Dates, Sr., Kimbrielle Monique (Vanda) Dates-Watkins; three sisters, Robbie Bernard-Pogue, Patricia Bernard, and Jarenia F. Lucy; seven grandchildren, Kimbrielle Shareese Dates, Shawntae Dates, Cortney Dates, Erius Dates, Jenisha Dates, Clifton Dates IV, and Darryl Dates, Jr.; four great grandchildren, Kerrien Dates, Christian Dates, Tayler Dates, and Jayce Gipson; along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
