Obituaries
Peggy Joyce Moore entered this world on March 3, 1947 and she was the first born child of the late John Nelson Moore and Floy Lee Berry Moore.
She was baptized into Christ t New Tyler A.M.E Church when she was a child; there she was active in the Young People’s Department (YPD). She later joined Unity Baptist Church (Rev. D. L. Short) and then Bellevue Baptist Church (Rev. Adrian Rogers). Finally she became a member of her beloved Middle Baptist Church Whitehaven under the tutelage of Pastor Emeritus Lester Basken. She sang in the choir and she loved attending Sister Irene Basken’s Sunday School Class.
Peggy moved to Savannah, Georgia when she married her husband, Edgar Harmon, Jr. She remained a member of Middle Baptist Church Whitehaven and they both continued paying their tithes until the present. She attended regular Bible studies in Savannah until her health failed.
Educated in the Memphis City School System, Peggy excelled at Lester Elementary, Ford Road Elementary and Mitchell High School where she was drum majorette and was voted Most Dignified in the Senior Superlatives. Later she graduated business school in Detroit, Michigan. A workaholic, Peggy worked at General Electric (GE), South Central Bell, 1st Tennessee Bank, Methodist Hospital Central, Federal Express and United Parcel Service.
For all of her dignity, Peggy was a funny, mischievous person who loved playing pranks on poor unsuspecting victims. No one was sage from her shenanigans not Mom or Daddy, her siblings (babies included), the neighbors, her teachers, bosses and even the wife of a prominent pastor! But she was not a morning person, and she would be the first to tell you so. When she was young she would go outside and sit on the porch because she did not want to say “good morning”. Just check with her after 10 am.
Peggy leaves to cherish her memory her husband, Edgar Harmon, Jr.; her mother, Floy L. Hill; two sisters, Johnetta Moore and Mary Frances (John) Wooldridge; six brothers, Thomas Alexander Pierce of Warrensville Heights, Ohio, Floyd Nelson Moore of Seffener, Florida, Victor Herbert (Catherine) Moore of Andrews, Texas, Michael O’Shea (Joyce) Moore of Odessa, Texas, Charles Anthony Moore and Kevin Scott Moore; one uncle; three aunts; four nephews; and a host of great nieces, great nephews, cousins and friends.
