.Retha Mae Saulsberry was born on March 22, 1956 to Elizabeth Saine and the late Willie V. Saine. She joined the family of Faith at an early age and was active in her home church. She later became a member of Centenary United Methodist Church. She attended Hamilton High School where she met her future husband, the Late Reverend Lee Saulsberry Sr. After graduation from Hamilton, the two were wed in Holy Matrimony and were together for 46 years.
She attended Southwest Tennessee Community College and LeMoyne Owen College where she studied Business Law and earned her Associate of Science Degree. In 1977, she became employed with the Memphis Police Department, and a year later she commenced her career with the Federal government, accepting a position with the Veteran’s Administration Hospital. In 1986, she was hired by the Department of Defense, where she served for 30 years as a Financial Analyst until her retirement in 2017. She received various awards during her tenure with the Department of Defense.
In their life journey together, Retha and the Late Reverend Lee Saulsberry began their ministry at Belmont Baptist Church where Reverend Saulsberry served as Associate Pastor.
Retha and Lee began a new spiritual journey when they were installed as Pastor and First Lady of Center Point Baptist Church in Jackson, TN on August 16, 2015. She was a spiritual presence and a great support to her husband in their service to and leadership of the congregation. She continued her service to the church after the death of her beloved “Lee”.
Retha was a dedicated wife, mother, and grandmother. She was an avid animal lover and she spread the gospel and joy everywhere she went. She will be remembered by all who knew her and those whose lives she touched.
Mrs. Retha Mae Saulsberry and the Late Reverend Lee Andrew Saulsberry Sr. were the parents of 4 children, who gave them a host of grandchildren and one great grandchild.
The sunset of Retha’s life was on December 6, 2021. Surviving her and continuing her legacy: mother, Elizabeth Saine; four children, Chenile Johnson (Stacy), Andre Saulsberry (Sharon), Toni Branch (Jason), Lee Andrew Saulsberry Jr.; three brothers, Murl Saine (Sandra), Earl Alexander (Ethel), Charlie Alexander (Trudy), one sister, Katherine Alexander; three aunts, Marie Herron, Etta Whitaker, Pearline Richmond; two sisters-in-law, Lynnwood Cross, Patricia Bishop, two brothers-in-law, Rather Saulsberry, Jr. (Earnestine), Watson Anderson (Sammie), and a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
