Obituaries
Robert Lee Sims Sr. was born October 12, 1937 in Lucy, Tennessee. His parents were the late Elroy and Mae Bell Sims. He professed a hope in Christ as a young child at Zion Hill M.B. Church in Millington, TN. Robert fell in love with his high school sweetheart by the name of Mildred Christopher. His melodic voice captured her heart and she soon became Mrs. Mildred Sims. He later moved his membership to Pentecostal Temple C.O.G.I.C. where he sang over 60 years as a member of the male chorus and the mass choir.Â
Robert worked other jobs before becoming a full-time Master/Barber for sixty-four years. He was effectually know as "Sims and Doc" there. Sims Unisex Style Shop is known as a haven for many people in the neighborhood. Along with having a thriving business he had hobbies and talents such as raising hogs and singing for the Lord! His skill with live stock fed many of the family members and friends for fourth of July celebrations and his ability and passion to sing gathered many around him! He formed a quartet group called "The Seven Brothers" and because of it he formed life long bonds with other musical singing groups and radio personalities. He traveled all over the south singing and creating lasting friendships. This lead him to have his own television show on Comcast Cable Network and later a radio show on WMQM 1600 AM. Roberts’ love for people showed through his generous spirit and loving smile. He would often quote John 3:16!
Robert transitioned from this life on Monday November 11, 2019 to eternal rest. He was preceded in death by his mother and father; his oldest sister, Alma Jean Branch and his son, Bobby Sims.
His memories will be cherished by his siblings, Elroy (Mary) Sims of Germantown, MD, Dorothy Smith and Annie Robinson both of Bakersfield, CA, Calvin (Sherry) Sims, Jossie Walker, and Delois Johnson; his children, Robin Phillips, Dennis (Veria) Sims, Darryl Sims, Robert Sims Jr.; twelve grandchildren and a host of great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
