Spencer Thomas Lockett Jr., 65, died June 24, 2020.

Spencer Thomas Lockett, Jr., loving father of George Reader Lockett and Sandra J. (Lockett) Earle made his transition at the age of 65 on June 24, 2020. He was born on September 18, 1954 in Richmond, Virginia to Spencer Thomas Lockett, Sr. of Richmond, VA, and Kathryn (Battle) Lockett of Rocky Mount, NC. He graduated from Northern Nash High School in Rocky Mount, North Carolina.

Spencer enlisted in the U.S. Navy in 1972. During his Naval career he was awarded four Good Conduct Awards, Sea Service Deployment Ribbon (with three stars), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal, National Defense Service Medal (with one star), Southwest Asia Service Medal (with three stars), Navy Unit Commendation, Navy Achievement Medal (with two starts), Battle “E” Ribbon (second award), and the Navy Expeditionary Medal. Spencer retired from the Navy in 1992 with honors as Aviation Boatswain Mate Handler Chief, ABHC(AW). After retirement, he worked as a Correctional Officer at the West Tennessee Detention Facility in Mason, TN.

Spencer had a passion for civil war history and loved reading war novels and superhero comic books. He was also an avid movie watcher and enjoyed fishing. He was known for his wit and making others laugh. A kind and compassionate spirit, he especially loved playing with children and helping others. He was a faithful member of Jefferson Street Missionary Baptist Church, in Nashville, TN.

Spencer was preceded in death by his father, Spencer Sr., his mother, Kathryn, and his brother Eugene. He is survived by the mother of his children, Theresia J. Lockett, his son, George R. Lockett and daughter, Sandra J. (Lockett) Earle all of Memphis TN; his niece Shonda Ray Lockett and his nephew Travis Lockett of Rocky Mount, NC; his uncle and aunt Curtis and Jean (Battle) Strader of Danville, VA; his beloved cousins Charles Watson of Richmond, VA and Brenda Barrett-Caldwell of Greensboro, NC; and his in-laws Odis and Bennie Gray of Blytheville, AR, as well as a host of other relatives and friends.
