Theodore Newton Jones was born April 5, 1944 in Memphis Tennessee to the late Julius Jones and Lubertha Jones. He accepted Christ at an early age and was a faithful member of Beautiful Zion Missionary Baptist Church in Chicago Illinois. He departed peacefully on July 27, 2022.
He went to the Army serving in the Vietnam War with the 25th Infantry in the Mekong Jungle. He did basic training in Fort Polk,LA. He was also stationed during his servitude in Hawaii and Alaska. He was awarded an honorable discharge, receiving a medal for his expertise as a M-14 rifleman. He moved to Chicago Illinois and started his family with then wife, Jeanette Jones. He worked as a lumberman at Hill Behan Lumber Company until his retirement.
Theodore was a pillar in his Englewood community as an auto mechanic, election officer, community advocate, and always helping others. He was known for his humor; saying such things as" I am not fattening no frogs for no snakes", or "Pour water down my back and tell me it's raining". He enjoyed reading, watching the History and Discovery channels, collecting coins, repairing jewelry, and listening to his jazz and Frank Sinatra. You could always hear him tell a great story on the porch on Racine Avenue.
He leaves to cherish his memories to his Fiancé Gloria Robinson, brothers Ray Jones of Memphis TN and Jackie Jones of Country Club Hills, Illinois, his sister Jewel Wilson of Memphis,TN and Bonnie Jones whom proceeded him in death. He leaves three daughters, Cassandra Short (Ivory ), Cathy Grimes( Lee) of Chicago Illinois and Lynika Harris of Memphis, Tn ,14 grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, and friends.
