Obituaries
On January 13, 1938, Van Ella “Van” Garrett was born to Mary Belle and Jeff Garrett. In this union Van would be the last child of 13 siblings preceding the death of her mother Mary Belle Turner Garrett. Van was then raised by sister Estell Garrett Williams following the death of her father Jeff Garrett.
Van, later in life would birth a son, (late) Timothy Garrett. Later on she would join union with (late) David Thomas in which two children would be born, (late) Cassandra Garrett and Tina Garrett. Three sisters children, (late) Virginia Halbert, Carl Halbert and Yvonne Halbert. Through marriage later on in life a daughter, Kevita Killebrew was born to the (late) Johnnie Killebrew.
Van will always be remembered for opening her heart and home with her beautiful personality, her sassy and witty attitude, along with her sarcastic style. Van shared her life with many through her services at the “Goodwill Homes Community Center”. She would later join The State of Tennessee family, “Department Human Services” and “The Department Children Services” in which she would serve and touch the lives of many.
To cherish and remember all the good times with Van, she leaves her Son Carl Halbert, daughters Tina Garrett, Kevita Dockery all of Memphis. One brother Lawrence Garrett of Memphis, a host of grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Van would now join union with two children who preceded her death Timothy Garrett, and Cassandra Garrett Driver.
