Vernita Ann Goodman Stansbury began her life on February 16, 1955, through the union of Rosie Mae and Tommie Hebron. She departed her earthly life on May 8, 2022, at 9:58 pm at Methodist University Hospital. She was the second vessel of nine children. Vernita was proceeded in death by her mother, father, sister, Jeffie Mills, brothers Sanders Hawkins, Herbert Hebron, Henry Hebron and David Hebron. Vernita accepted Christ at an early age. She learned about the gospel at Lane Avenue Baptist Church in Memphis, TN under the leadership of the late Pastor J.W Williams Sr. She was a proud graduate of Hamilton High School class of 1973. She furthered her education at Durham Technical College. Upon graduating, she entered the workforce and quickly became a servant leader. She enjoyed cooking (BBQ) and feeding people. Her passion for serving the community led her to 26 years of service with Memphis City Schools (MSCS) as a Nutrition Technician. She retired from there as a Nutrition Technician. Not only did she have a major impact on her family, but she made an everlasting impact on coworkers and the students that she encountered throughout her time with them. Many that knew Vernita knew she liked for everyone to just call her “Ms. Ann.” Ann became that warm and gentle giant that everyone adored. She cooked for those who were hungry, loved those who needed it, and cared for those didn’t have it. She had a heart of gold. She taught those around her how to love, be patient and forgive. She believed that these traits were the core qualities to life. Ms. Ann was a solider on the battlefield. Her life became her testimony, and she did not mind telling her story to anyone who was in search of motivation to press through life’s many challenges. Vernita joined Clayton Leroy Stansbury in holy matrimony on November 22, 2020. She leaves him to cherish her memories as well as her daughter, Natasha Goodman (Jimmy); two bonus children, LaTambra Kennard; Cameron Stansbury; her grandchildren, Tarnika Anderson (Quennel); Jasmine Wilkins; Jemeka Thomas; great granddaughter, Skylar Anderson; bonus grandchildren, Quinton Veasley; Tyler Veasley; Trinity Bowles; her sister, Doris Hebron; two brothers, Hubert Hebron; Tommie Hebron Jr.; her bonus sisters Pamela Stansbury; Eugena Stansbury; bonus brothers, Stephen Stansbury (Quanda) of Pensacola, FL; Joseph Stansbury (Trina); a special God daughter, Katrina Johnson and a special brother/cousin, Frank Hawkins (Lisa) of San Antonio, TX. She also leaves a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, relatives and friends to mourn her passing.
“And God will wipe every tear from their eyes and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow nor crying neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away.”
