Linda Wynell Cox McGowan, age 72, of Memphis, TN, passed away on August 22, 2021 at 4:44am in Memphis, TN.
Linda Wynell Cox was born Memphis, TN, to Mr. Willie Jim Cox Sr., and Mozella Waller on September 16, 1948.
She confessed Christ at Hill Chapel Missionary Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Rev E. L. Slay on Dexter.
She was a graduate of Douglass High School Class of 1966. She married John Quincy McGowan on February ‘1974. She worked for the Internal Revenue Services for 33 years. She was a veteran of the Army, and honorable discharged.
She was preceded in death by ex-husband, John Quincy McGowan, Mr.; and family members: Mrs. Willie Jim Cox Sr., Brenda J. Nesbitt, Carl J. Cox, Jeffery L. Cox, Willie Jim Cox Jr., and Curtis A. Cox, (Terri).
She is survived by loving daughter, Tamara Nikki McGowan; granddaughter, Kashmira Ciara McGowan, Dallas, TX; grandson: Quinten Christopher Guffin; goddaughter, Daisha C. Harris; brother, Sherman Cox, Greenville, MS; brother: Gregory Cox Waco, TX; sister, Corliss Cox, Memphis, TN; sister, Mozella Cox, Memphis, TN, and a host of relatives and friends.
Visitation will be 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. on September 7, 2021 at Serenity Funeral Home.
Committal services will be held at West Veteran Cemetery Forest Hill Irene on September 8 at 1 p.m. with the Pastor Dorothy McGowan of Christian Spring M. B. Church, 1080 Pearce St 38107, officiating, with burial following at West Veteran Cemetery Forest Hill Irene.
